Taekwondo Biomechanics: Intersegmental Joint Coordination and Hopping Effect

چکیده
The first purpose of the study was to investigate biomechanical characteristics of eight different Taekwondo kicks and to categorize them by the newly defined index of coordination of hip and knee joint motions. The second purpose was to investigate the effect of the rhythmic hop (habitually performed by athletes in Taekwondo sparring) in order to find whether rhythmic hop improves kicking performance. Twelve male elite Taekwondo athletes (age: 20.48.4 years, mass: 71.98.4 kg, and height: 1.800.04 m) participated in this study and performed eight different Taekwondo kicks as fast as possible when they received an external signal. Eight different kicks were the front kick (FR), roundhouse kick (RH), side kick (SD), pushing kick (PU), back kick (BA), turning-back kick (TB), thrashing kick (TH), and downward kick (DW). The results of the index of interjoint coordination (IIC), classified eight kicks into throw-like kicks (FR, RH, and PU), push-like kicks (SD and BA), and pushthrow continuum (BA, HK and DW). Throw-like kicks showed the fastest response time and highest kicking velocity and push-throw continuum revealed the highest momentum of the kicking leg at the impact. The rhythmic hops did not affect the response times but improved the kicking velocities of both RH and BA significantly.

Trunk coordination in dancers and nondancers.
Variability, or how a task changes across trials, may reveal differences between athletes of differing skill levels. The purpose of this study was to examine trunk and lower extremity (LE) single joint kinematic variability and intersegmental coordination variability in dancers and nondancers during bipedal vertical dance jumps (sautés). Twenty healthy females, 10 with no formal dance training ...
متن کاملRabbit knee joint biomechanics: motion analysis and modeling of forces during hopping.
Although the rabbit hindlimb has been commonly used as an experimental animal model for studies of osteoarthritis, bone growth and fracture healing, the in vivo biomechanics of the rabbit knee joint have not been quantified. The purpose of this study was to investigate the kinematic and kinetic patterns during hopping of the adult rabbit, and to develop a model to estimate the joint contact for...

Mathematical models of small animals that predict in vivo forces acting on the lower extremities are critical for studies of musculoskeletal biomechanics and diseases. Rabbits are advantageous in this regard because they remodel their cortical bone similar to humans. Here, we enhance a recent mathematical model of the rabbit knee joint to include the loading behavior of individual muscles, liga...

STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional laboratory study. OBJECTIVES To compare peak lower-limb, pelvis, and trunk kinematics and interjoint and intersegmental coordination in women with strong and weak hip muscle performance. BACKGROUND Persons with lower extremity musculoskeletal disorders often demonstrate a combination of weak hip musculature and altered kinematics during weight-bearing dynamic ta...
متن کاملInter-joint coordination in producing kicking velocity of taekwondo kicks.
The purpose of this study was to investigate joint kinematics of the kicking leg in Taekwondo and to examine the role of inter-joint coordination of the leg in producing the kicking velocity. A new inter-joint coordination index that encompasses three- dimensional hip and knee motions, was defined and applied to the joint kinematic results. Twelve elite Taekwondo athletes participated in this s...
